Day one of The 2011 Masters Golf Tournament comes as no surprise to me that a couple of Europeans hold the first round lead. Rory McIlroy and big hitting Alvaro Quiros share the first round lead. Seven of the top ten in The Official World Golf rankings at the start of The Masters are European. Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker are the only Americans in the top ten. Mickelson is 5 shots back, Woods is 6 and Stricker is 7 off the leaders. Could this be the Europeans first Master’s victory since Jose Maria Olazabal? You have to go back to 1999 to find a European donning the green jacket. The leader board is filled with European names and Tiger, unless he has a phenomenal round on Friday to position himself for the weekend (unlikely considering his recent play) , will be again a non-factor. Hopefully Mickelson will continue his recent good play and put himself in contention for yet another green jacket and possibly take over the #1 ranking.
